Paragraph spacing on FB2 files
I recently bought a Papyre 5.1 device, which is the Spanish variant of the Hanlin v5 e-book reader. Although I don’t mind reading properly formatted PDF files, it is clear that an unstructured textual format works much better. The FB2 format is the better supported and the one with more options and choices.
I prefer using a 110% inter-line separation. Additionally I find that a little space between paragraphs makes reading much easier, but there is no option to automatically set this up. Fortunately, FB2 files are just an XML variant, and a plain text editor is enough to change little things. In particular, paragraphs are delimited by <p> tags, and a small embedded CSS section may be added at the beginning of the file.
Just after the second line of the file:

The following text should be added:

If the stylesheet section already exists, only the following line should be added:
p { margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px;}
Now there will be a separation between paragraphs, which will make reading even more enjoyable.
Another option would be changing the style in the fb2.css file, which is stored inside the crengine folder of the SD card. Personally I prefer hand-editing each file, as formatting is not always set in the same way.

Si los Reyes se portan bien y me traen un lector de libros electrónicos (un Papyre 5.1) posiblemente hasta lo supere… aunque lo tengo difÃcil.
Modificaciones en la lista de libros
Últimamente estoy leyendo bastantes libros en formato electrónico. Suelen ser obras cuyos derechos han caducado, y se pueden obtener libremente en Internet. Como soy un poco maniático, me gusta llevar un registro de las lecturas que hago a lo largo del año, y utilizo además un servicio adicional que incluso contabiliza las páginas leÃdas.
Hasta ahora en este servicio buscaba un libro de papel que tuviera el mismo contenido y que servÃa únicamente para contabilizar el número de paginas, pero eso falseaba los libros que realmente habÃa leÃdo. Por otro lado, el concepto de página no existe como tal en un libro electrónico, porque a menos que sea un PDF (e incluso a veces si lo es) la división en páginas es arbitraria y depende de la pantalla del dispositivo lector. Incluso, ahora que estoy leyendo relatos cortos, los libros que los recopilan a veces no incluyen todos los que tengo, y también a veces se recogen algunos de los que yo no dispongo.
La solución que he adoptado es crear en aNobii los libros y los relatos sueltos que he leÃdo, dando como número de páginas el obtenido en pasar el texto a PDF. Desde el lugar en que los descargo habitualmente se pueden obtener documentos en formato PDF, y han sido éstos los que he utilizado para obtener el número de páginas de cada relato.
Ahora en la lista parece que he leÃdo muchos libros… pero en realidad he leÃdo muchos relatos cortos. De todas formas me parece más correcto llamar «libro» a unas pocas páginas en formato PDF que decir que he terminado un libro que no tengo, y cuyo contenido no coincide con lo que he leÃdo.
Esto no salvará el mundo, pero contribuye a mi paz mental…
